A Challenge Called Businesswoman

A Challenge Called BusinesswomanAll successful people face obstacles, that is certain. But for women the challenge can be even greater, because the business world is still dominated by men.

Being a woman, mother, entrepreneur and manager of the home, and do all this on top of high heels is not an easy task, but when that resolved and ambitious woman overcomes challenges, the laurels of victory tastes a lot more pleasurable!

This week we had a conversation about this topic with the Vice-President of Entrepreneurship at the «Jeune Chambre de Commerce de Montréal», Vanessa Cherenfant.

If you are a woman who is in search of your personal and professional achievement, this article is for you. If you are a man who wants to become capable of supporting the woman you love, this article is for you too.

Who makes better leaders: Men or Women?

Who makes better leaders: Men or Women? The battle of the sexes has probably existed since the dawn of times. And in Humanity’s history, we have seen both patriarchal and matriarchal societies. So still today, in the 21st century, we continue to be intrigued by the differences between men and women and keep wondering who does what better.

During my research for this article, I was amazed at how much was written on the subject of «Who makes better leaders», and even more amazed at how consistent the scientific research results were.

I will share with you the widely-recognized answer to the question «Who makes better leaders: Men or Women?», what leadership traits contribute to that result, what impact it has on the business world, and what changes, if any, should be made in the current business structure around the world.

Mompreneurs: true modern-day heroes

03 juny_articleJust last week I found out there is a name for the lifestyle I chose. Apparently I’m a «Mompreneur». This discovery immediately made me feel less alone and more supported.

Wikipedia describes this concept as: «a neologism defined as a female business owner who is actively balancing the role of mom and the role of entrepreneur.»

But I like the description by TheMOMpreneur.com much better: «A multi-tasking woman who can balance both the stresses of running a business as an entrepreneur and the time-consuming duties of motherhood at the same time.»

There are literally dozens of aspects related to being a Mompreneur, all of them warranting a separate article. So I will touch here on just a few, which I have personal experience with, and there might be other business segments on this subject later on.

The bearing and the training of a child
Is woman’s wisdom.
– Alfred Tennyson (The Princess, 1847)

So here’s another revelation I had during my research for this article; it turns out that, as modern as I am, I still firmly believe in traditional family values, like the importance for children to have their Moms at home for as long as possible. But how is that feasible in this 21st century crazy competitive professional environment? Let’s find out the myths and realities of it.
